Manufacturer: Abbott Healthcare
Pharmaceutical name: Terazosin
Pack: 10 pills (5 mg)
Hytrin (Terazosin) belongs to a class of medications known as alpha-adrenergic blockers. This medication works by relaxing the veins and arteries, allowing blood to flow more freely. It also helps to relax the muscles in the prostate and the bladder neck, facilitating easier urination. Hytrin is prescribed for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) and to help improve urination in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate).

You should avoid using Hytrin if you have a known allergy to Terazosin. Hytrin may lead to dizziness or fainting, particularly when you begin taking it or if you restart the medication. If you find that it makes you feel light-headed, consider taking it only at bedtime. Exercise caution when driving or performing tasks that require full alertness. Try to avoid standing for extended periods or becoming overheated during physical activity or in warm weather. Be cautious about getting up quickly from a sitting or lying position, as this may cause dizziness.

If you discontinue Hytrin for any reason, consult your doctor before resuming it, as you might need a dosage adjustment.

Hytrin can influence your pupils during cataract surgery, so inform your eye surgeon in advance that you are using this medication. Do not discontinue Hytrin prior to surgery unless instructed by your surgeon.

Be sure to inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, particularly other blood pressure drugs and diuretics (water pills).

Potential Side Effects: You may experience fatigue, nausea, drowsiness, blurred vision, headaches, or a stuffy nose. You might also feel light-headed or dizzy when standing up, particularly after your first dose or shortly after taking the medication within the first week of treatment. To reduce the chances of dizziness and fainting, rise slowly from a sitting or lying position. If you feel dizzy, sit or lie down until it passes. If any of these symptoms persist or worsen, contact your doctor or pharmacist without delay.

Keep in mind that your doctor prescribed Hytrin because they believe that the benefits for you outweigh the potential risk of side effects. Many individuals taking Hytrin do not experience significant side effects.

Contact your doctor right away if you notice any of these unlikely but serious side effects: fainting, rapid or irregular heartbeat, tingling or burning sensations in hands or feet, issues with sexual function, swelling in the ankles, hands, or feet, or unexpected weight gain.

Notify your doctor immediately if any of these rare but serious side effects occur: easy bruising or bleeding, or noticeable changes in your mental or mood state.
